Who are you?
Troy
Lester Ridgway (Yeah I know, sucky middle name) But at camp I’m more
commonly known as T-Roy…Yeah defiantly T-Roy. I like that name…T-Roy. It
kinda just rolls off the tongue
What church do you attend?
Romaine
Christian Centre Burnie. There I have heaps to do with the youth.
What kind of family do you
come from?
A family
like one. I have a Mummy, a Daddy and a blob most commonly known as my
brother.
What are your likes, dislikes,
hobbies, school attending?
I’m a bit
of a performer. I dance (tap, rap and swing) I act (mainly musicals and
comedy) I like a bit of history, especially ancient history and mythology, I
love being at Camp (I’ve been coming here since I was in grade 3 so that
make ’08 my ninth year…wow I’ve been coming to Camp for half my life) I also
love just hanging around with my mates and having a good ol’ chin wag (lucky
for me, my best mates are also Super Squaders) I love being with and around
youth. Seeing them happy makes me happy *Insert awww sound effect here*
This is
going to sound really contradictory, but people annoy me the most. The way
people whinge, back stab and down right mean for no apparent reason really
gets up my goat. I also don’t like the beach very much (even more so since
last Friday when the entire squad got into a spot of bother) the main reason
is the sand…It gets everywhere (I get that from my Dad, typical Pom).
I love
British comedy. I’m a huge fan of Month Python, Rowan Atkinson and John
Cleese (outside of Python i.e. Fawlty Towers) I also love musicals apart
from HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. For Christmas of ’07
Mum and I went to Melbourne and saw Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: the
Musical and Monty Python’s Spamalot. Both were absolutely
brilliant.
This year
I am attend Hellyer College in Burnie for year 12. This year I’m studying
English Writers, Theatre Performance, Choreography and Photography.
Plans for the future?
I’m not
really sure what I am going to do in the future. I’m leaning towards
performing arts teacher, but I would also like to do some youth working at
places like Camp.
Like
every other typical drama student, I would love to be in a movie one day. My
dream role would be a James Bond bad guy.
I would
also love to travel to Greece (to see all the cool old buildings), Canada
(to see the breath taking forests and also to do some serious skiing),
Mongolia (I would really like to ride the trails of the Huns by horse) and
England (just to see where my family came from and to see the old oak
forests)
Why are you doing the Super
Squad course?
Four main
reasons in no particular order -
1) To
learn new skills
2) To
enhance my journey with God
3) To get
to know my best friends even better
4) To
give back to Camp Clayton
Tell me about the training
week you had? What did you like? What was challenging?
Training
was awesome fun. That week we all learnt that Alex has a thing for
blindfolds. He got us to do heaps of challenges with at least one of us
blind. The two best things we have done blindfolded would’ve had to be the
archery (don’t panic he had the rest of the Squad helping us aim) and this
literal thinking puzzle. We had to rearrange tires onto poles, but the tire
were different sizes and bigger ones weren’t allowed on smaller ones…anyway
to cut a long story short we managed to do it in 7 moves which is the
minimum it can be done. The least favourite thing we did blind was the High
Ropes. I don’t mind heights as long as I has something that my feet can fit
on comfortably. Now, I have never done the High Ropes before so I feel
pretty chuffed that my first time I did it blind (heck yes for bragging
rights at 7/8).
How are you feeling about the
rest of the summer?
I feel
really good about the up coming weeks.
What are
you looking forward to?
I’m
really looking to supervising 7/8 and the Squad Project which this year is
Bouldering Wall.
What types of things have you
done so far in the course?
So far I
have done activities, where Nikki and I ripped stuff apart so the 9/10 camp
could build things.
I did
Maintenance all by my lonesome. Tim and I scrubbed and cleaned and fixed up
the Villa roof. Erica and Yowie did the painting.
I have
been in the Kitchen again all by myself (song lyric for the day woot!) In
the kitchen I iced 3 cakes, made over 120 muffins, over 80 jellies, over 80
honey joys (that I now hate even more then I did before) and manage to get
covered from head to toe with flower and get my hand blown off by the oven
(its ok I have spares)
Today is
my admin and guess what, that’s right I’m on my own…I’m starting to think I
smell.
And
tomorrow I’ve got activities again, and I bet you can’t guess who with…
Which
camp are you supervising and what are you excited about?
As I said
earlier I’m supervising 7/8, but I aint gonna tell what I’m looking forward
too…it would spoil the surprise.
Have you met any staff that
you have learnt something from?
I have
met and worked with most of the Camp Clayton staff and every time I do I
learn something new.
Anything else to share?
This
summer we have a quote board in the Phone Booth (the squad hang out) and
already there are heaps of funny moments written up there. Most of them are
blonde moments (Erica –“There’s a McDonalds in Ulverstone?”) And a fair few
are completely and utterly random (Troy – “Wouldn’t be funny if all of a
sudden it threw up?” while watching Yowie spinning a mattress)
17/1/2008
Right, well it's been over a week since I last updated,
and there isn't much to say really. So far this week I have had to put up
with Jnr Girls...not fun.
On Monday I got to do Maintenance,
and I had a friend!! Yeah so Matt and I got to pull sleepers off the gardens
down at Bayside which was fun cause we had all the main camp vehicles down
there (the truck, Ute, golf buggy and the tractor). We get really dirty and
we got to kill a few inch man nests with petrol (at least they died happy)
Tuesday was Activities again with Matt. I ran the Flying
Fox with Caddie and she thinks I am ready to be assessed YAY. Matt and I
also cut some planks to build some seats. I managed not to burn myself using
the angle grinders and metal saw...which is a good thing
